AT&T Expands Access to High Speed Internet in Daviess County and other Rural and Underserved Areas of Kentucky

AT&T is Now Offering Fixed Wireless Internet Service to Rural Portions of 18 States, Including Parts of 51 Counties Across Kentucky

AT&T* Fixed Wireless Internet1 for rural and underserved locations is now available to residents and small businesses in parts of Daviess County, including Owensboro, Philpot and Whitesville.

This rollout, now in 18 states, began in 2017. The company now offers Fixed Wireless Internet to over 440,000 locations across 18 states with plans to provide access to over 1.1 million locations by the end of 2020.

“Daviess County is an incredible place to raise a family and run a business,” said Senator Joe Bowen. “We must have a 21st Century infrastructure to keep it that way, and access to high-speed Internet is key. I applaud AT&T for their continued investment and work to enhance high-speed connectivity for residents and businesses in rural Kentucky.”

Fixed Wireless Internet service delivers an internet connection with download speeds of at least 10Mbps and upload speeds of at least 1Mbps. The connection comes from a wireless tower to a fixed antenna on a customer’s home or business. This is an efficient way to deliver high-quality, high-speed internet to customers living in underserved rural areas1.

The towers used to provide this service are connected to AT&T’s network using AT&T fiber optics. AT&T has more than 980,000 strand miles of AT&T fiber optics covering Kentucky, which enables the company to offer a wide variety of products and services delivering the high-speed connectivity Kentucky businesses and residents need.

“This expansion of internet access to rural residents is such good news,” said Candace Castlen Brake, President & CEO, Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce. “Technology infrastructure is an integral part of our community being economically competitive.”

“AT&T is proud to work with our local, state and federal leadership to provide the connectivity Kentucky’s residents and businesses demand,” said AT&T Kentucky president Hood Harris. “Through this new AT&T service, we are helping close the remaining connectivity gap in our commonwealth.”

In addition to Kentucky, AT&T Fixed Wireless Internet is available to residents and businesses in parts of Alabama, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.
