AT&T Boosts Game Day Cellular Capacity in Sanford Stadium

Upgraded 4G LTE Network Technology Gives Better Connection on Game Days

AT&T* boosted its cellular capacity in Sanford Stadium at the University of Georgia in Athens. When a big play happens this season, our wireless customers can enjoy stronger connections as they share it with friends and family. We’ve also added capacity on our cell sites near the stadium so customers get a better experience – even outside the stadium.

We recently completed upgrades to our existing Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at Sanford Stadium. This means nearly 15% more LTE capacity than last year. This is like adding more lanes to a highway, resulting in less network congestion and more reliable service.

AT&T customers at Sanford Stadium used an average of 992 GB of mobile data per game on our in-venue mobile network last season. That’s equal to more than 2.8 million social media photo posts.

“Sports fans need a great network experience to share moments at the stadium. We’ve improved the network so they can easily make a call, send a text, check other scores or post pictures at the game,” said Paul Chambers, regional director of External Affairs, AT&T. “We’re continuing to invest in our wireless network to help customers at Sanford Stadium stay connected.”

A DAS is made of numerous, small antennas that enhance the in-stadium capacity of the AT&T wireless network. It shortens the distance a call or text travels. Calls, texts and posts are less likely to get stuck in a traffic jam of other calls, texts and posts.

The multi-million dollar Sanford Stadium system of more than 400 mini antenna was installed before the 2014 season. And, as usage climbed, we’ve added more capacity to answer the needs of our wireless customers. These enhancements help our customers get the best possible experience over the AT&T network, whether at home, work or on the go.
